Postmaster Hitesh Parekh has run his Sub Post Office at 6 Broadoak Crescent, Ashton-Under-Lyne for twelve years. Although his branch was not included in the original list of network change closures for the Greater Manchester area. Following the first round of pulic consultations it was announced in August that his office was to be closed.
The Tameside Advertiser reports :
'A DECISION not to close Broadoak Post Office is being hailed a "victory for people power". Campaigners led by Ashton MP David Heyes have triumphed following a three-month battle to stop the closure of the popular post office.'
As the Network Change programme draws to a close it is great to hear that local feelings and knowledge are still being taken note of and PO branches like the one at Broadoak Crescent are having the threat raised from them.
Good luck Hitesh.
